Quiet Hours this week. The calendar between Lehi and Pleasant Grove went thin, so this one is short on purpose. Six items, and all six are real. Two of them sit in American Fork and one is in the canyon above it. The two biggest cost nothing and five dollars, in that order. Friday is the one to plan around. TRAILHEAD Free BBQ and a movie at Hunter ParkHunter Park in American Fork is running a free community BBQ on Friday, 5:30 to 10:30pm. Hot dogs, drinks, a vendor market, and after dark, a movie on a screen in the grass. Free, all of it. This is the pick because it clears the bar both ways: it works with three kids under ten and it works with none of them. Five hours is a wide window, so pick your slice: eat early with the vendor market, or come at dusk for the movie. It is at 610 W 1120 N, and the American Fork Chamber listing has the rest of the details. Bring camp chairs and a jacket. A movie that runs to 10:30pm in late September is a jacket movie. |

Three Locals: mechanics Three spots in the footprint, pulled off the map by review count. Nobody paid for this and we are not vouching for anyone. If we missed the one your family actually uses, reply and tell us. |
American Fork Canyon has a race in it Saturday. The Amped AF Enduro, an eBike enduro hosted by Countryman Adventure Co., runs 8am to 6pm out of the Canyon Oaks Campground parking lot. If Saturday was going to be your canyon day, that lot is spoken for from eight in the morning until six at night. That is the whole day. Go early, or go up Sunday instead. Quiet weeks are the ones where reader mail carries the issue. We would rather print your answer than guess at one. Which trailhead in American Fork Canyon fills first, and what time do you leave the house to beat it? Send us the trailhead, and we will run what comes back. I will rank a thin week, since somebody should: Friday at Hunter Park first, Tuesday at Thanksgiving Point second, and it is not close. Free beats five dollars, and five dollars still beats most Tuesdays. If this was useful, forward The Happy Camper to the neighbor who asks every Thursday what there is to do. What did we miss this week? Reply and tell us. |
